Movements of Pied Flycatcher Ficedula hypoleuca and Spotted Flycatcher Muscicapa striata

For many years several MRG members have concentrated on populations of Pied Flycatchers using nest-boxes, especially in the Clwyd hills. The two maps below show the movements overseas and the long-distance movements within Britain. There are also scores of short-distance movements, and hundreds of birds retrapped at, or near to, their natal site: these will be analysed elsewhere.

By contrast, few Spotted Flycatchers Muscicapa striata are ringed by the Group, and only one recovery has resulted:
